Directors Statement

A forced relocation to the state of Georgia set me on a quest to acquaint myself with the land and its ancient stewards. When I began filming a documentary call-to-action for the Center for Biological Diversity to save Weelaunee/Stop Cop City, I quickly realized how difficult meeting local Mvskoke people would be. All of my conversations led me to those who were forcibly relocated to Oklahoma. After some time, the work of Joshua Garrett came into my field and hit me deeply. We struck up a correspondence and planned this short piece to encapsulate the Deadfeather project. It has tethered me to a narrative thread I began pulling over a decade ago, and could not be more honored to call Joshua a dear friend. We now look forward to future collaborations and impacting each other’s work.
