Honoring Our Ancestors
At Sunset, Tongva Elder Julia Bogany (RNCI Board member) and Joanelle Romero will host The American Indian Holocaust Memorial ceremony. Live at 5:00 here https://www.facebook.com/RedNationFF/
The American Indian Holocaust Memorial was established in 2007 by RNCI, Downton Los Angeles. The ceremony was held at The Los Angeles State Historic Park, where the Tongva and Chumush used to meet at the Water portal, ceremony was in association with the City of Los Angeles reopening of The Los Angeles State Historic Park.
In 2015, RNCI established The American Indian Holocaust Memorial in Washington D.C. in front of the White House with American Indian Community Leaders.
RNCI in 2006 established The Sacred Life of Water Ceremony along the Los Angeles River and in 2007 at Playa del Rey Ballona Wetlands. In 2007, Robert Dorame, a descendant of the Gabrelino/Tongva tribe, after hearing that RNCI founder Joanelle Romero was have ceremony at Playa del Rey Ballona Wetlands asked for her help in facilitating in getting his ancestors remains back, they were being held in a trailer on Playa Vista’s property. During the The Sacred Life of Water Ceremony in 2007, Joanelle invited Los Angeles City Council Bill Rosendahl, and asked him with 75 witnesses to help with a proper reburial of Dorame’s displaced ancestors. RNCI with the support City Council Member Bill Rosendahl, is responsible for the returns of Gabrelino/Tongva Ancestors to their rightful burial site.
