Call for Poets for the 24th RNCI Red Nation International Film Festival – Premier Poetry Event
The RNIFF Native Poets Society, the all-volunteer planning group for the 24th RNCI Red Nation International Film Festival, seeks applications from poets interested in participating in a session at the festival NOVEMBER 2019 DATE TBA, focused on the theme of “Natives on Charge of Their Narrative.” . We hope to include a range of poets of American Indian & Indigenous Descent —of different ages, professions, and stages of development.
If you’re a poet interested in being part this session and can be in Los Angeles CA, first week of November, please provide the following information and submit it as a .pdf, .doc, or .docx attachment to rncimedia@gmail.com by September 9, 2019.
Unfortunately, we’re not able to provide financial compensation for your participation. But we can offer our heartfelt thanks and publicity via our promotion of the festival.
- Name
If you use a pen name, provide both your pen name and your legal name. - Contact information
Provide a phone number, e-mail address, physical mailing address, and Web site address, if you have a personal Web site. - Titles, dates, and publishers of chapbooks and books of poetry or related to poetry, if applicable
If you have published poetry or poetry-related books or chapbooks, list the title, publisher, and publication date for each. Please note that not having a book or chapbook does not mean you won’t be considered seriously—we want the festival to represent a range of poets, including ones at different points in their careers and publication. - A brief bio
Provide a bio of no more than 500 words—and shorter is fine. - Work sample
Please provide two or three poems that you feel speak to the theme of poetry of intersections. If you’re invited to read at the festival, you’ll have the option of reading poems other than those you submit now (as long as they speak in some way to the theme), but we’ll use the poems you submit now to get a sense of your style and approach to poetry. - Brief comment on the theme “intersections”
Write one or two sentences on why you’re interested in participating in a session on the poetry of Natives in Charge of Their Narrative or on how you feel your poetry speaks to that theme. We’re open to how you respond to the theme and welcome a wide range of responses to it.
