In November 1944, tribal leaders faced the terrible threat of the federal termination policy but they responded by making a tremendous sacrifice that would change the history of Indian Country. In spite of the cost, they traveled to Denver, Colorado to gather with other tribal leaders and establish the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI). They invested in the future, and our communities are still reaping the benefits of that investment today.
