Standing Tall in Wrangell

Director: Quinton Edward Davies

Experience a historic Alaskan cultural revival through the eyes of carver Aak’wtaatseen Mike Hoyt. This film follows Mike as he takes the lead on carving the Killer Whale Grave Marker, a Kayaashkeiditaan tribute raised on the exact lawn where his great-great-grandfather’s totem once stood. His journey is part of a monumental July 2025 event organized by the Wrangell Cooperative Association, which saw five new totem poles raised in Wrangell for the first time in 38 years. Through Mike’s firsthand perspective, discover what it means to carry the torch of a generational craft.
