Since the 1870s, Native Americans have been subjected to attempted cultural genocide through forced conversions to western religions, forced separation of their children for ‘re-education’ in the boarding school system that created trauma and dysfunction within the native communities over five generations, and a purposeful devaluation of their culture through the curriculum of history and popular culture. This film explores the lasting effects of these assaults on Native culture and how they are still ingrained in the dominant culture today.
